Great to hear that, Trevor! I will look into Ap Chau's Scottish links.
I was on Kat O about 20 years ago and heard a lot of who I thought were villagers speaking in a strange language. It turned out it was Dutch. Their parents had emigrated to Holland in the 1970s, and they had all come back to visit for the island's 10-yearly "ching chiu" festival.

I remember from my marine lolice days that tiny Ap cHau had strong links with Scotland . Scottish accented English often heard, and Eurasian children sometimes running aout The church was very active, with the village reptesentative taking services. Formerly had a successful fish farm A former colleague told me that the church has decamped to Edinburgh. Kat O was never my favourite island, seemed rather shabby and smelly One of the inhabitants was a forner KMT soldier, who still dressed in uniform and screamed invective about Mao Tse tung all day long

“Spurrier” seems an unusual surname.
Are you absolutely sure that you are not related to this lady?

Thank you for your wonderfully illustrated and informative book. During this epidemic, I have followed your book to the tee and completed all the 4 trails with my husband. I usually travel abroad but Covid and your book has enabled me instead to travel Hk on foot and see HongKong’s beautiful mountains and landscapes from a different perspective. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in hiking in Hk !
